RAILBENDERS HEAD UP AN EVENING AT THE ORIENTAL
TO RAISE MONEY FOR CASHS GARDEN
Benefit concert to build a quiet place to sit at The Childrens Hospital
in memory of the small but mighty son of local couple

Denver, Colo.  November 19, 2007  Team Cash, a collective of the family and friends of Page and Tess Phillips, announce Cashs Garden Benefit Concert at the Oriental Theater (4335 West 44th Ave.) on Friday, January 18, 2007. The concert, being held to raise the last $10,000 toward their $30,000 goal to build Cashs Garden, a memorial to their small but mighty son who died last May of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), will feature local rock/country phenoms The Railbenders and bluegrass group Long Road Home.

The Phillips hope the planned 900 square foot garden, to be built and planted at The Childrens Hospital, will fill a void they noticed when staying 24/7 at the hospital during their son Cashs illness last spring. Sometimes I just needed to get us all out of the hospital room and go for a walk to see a tree or two. I didnt feel comfortable going too far, and yet the area immediately surrounding the hospital wasnt quite the nature walk I was looking for, says Tess Phillips. Adds Page, her husband, It will be a pretty place to sit, alone or with your child, when you just need a break from the same four walls.

And the Phillips know that scenario well. Last spring, after their son showed uneven muscle development in his first few months, Cash was diagnosed with type I spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic disorder of the motor neurons that prevents the proper growth and function of muscles throughout the body, including those necessary for respiration and digestion. As the SMA progressed, they found themselves spending the last weeks of Cashs life in permanent residence in a hospital room.

The staff at Childrens is truly amazing. And we will never be able to thank them enough for their care of him and of us. But when you live there among the beeps and the tubes and the metal, you just need something soft, green, and lovely for your babys eyes to gaze on, says Tess. We think this little spot can be a place of solace for parents and their kids working through whatever circumstances they have going on.

In addition to the concert, a silent auction will run throughout the evening, featuring artwork, artisan wares, gift certificates to local businesses, sports memorabilia, and ski wear.
